2008-2009 The 2008-2009 season brought some great successes to
the club once more. First and foremost we grew again as a club in all of our programs! The Oakville Basketball Club had greater
enrollment in every single program, from our youngest age Micro Baller sessions, through to our Steve Nash House League, our
Rep teams and finally our Men's League! We also hosted multiple high level development camps, Ganon Baker , Point Guard College,
Dee Brown, and the Tammy Sutton Brown Elite camp! As a club we accomplished a lot for basketball in our community and we are
very thankful and proud of all of the hard work and efforts of the many volunteers that made this possible.
Pictured
above is the clubs first undefeated team, the Provincial Champion Major Atom AAA Girls. This is
a spectacular accomplishment from a team of dedicated young ladies and their coaches. Great work girls! 58 wins , no losses,
WOW!
The Way Forward! 2009-2010
Our
Venom teams have grown again! We will have a minimum 24 Rep teams for this coming season. We have added some
quality coaches and will be spending more time developing a rep curriculum together as coaches.
We
have a new focus! We have implemented the Oakville Basketball Player Development Program.
This program focuses on high level expertise being made available on a regular basis to our rep level
athletes on a position specific and skill specific basis. . Focused sessions in Post Development, Shooting,
Guard skills, and Defensive skills as well as Physical preparation in first step quickness and vertical potential
are underway. As a Club we are dedicated to advancing the skills and development of our athletes. Our goal is to prepare
those athletes who have the will and the desire to compete at the next level with the tools they need to succeed.
House
League player development is a focus point as well this season. OBC grew out of a need to provide a place for kids
to play who either just wanted to enjoy some fitness and those who hadnt quite acquired the skills to play at the rep
level. There are dual benefits to developing the house league player. First and most importantly the game is just plain more
fun when you know a little about how to play it ! Second, we are dedicated to widening the base of
participation and to developing more players that can play at a higher level and the house league is exactly where it starts.
Not many would argue at this point that the work we have done in our house league has made our rep teams and many surrounding
rep teams, deeper and more skilled. OBC former house league players can be found on many teams in our community.
